Q1: Is porn made by women and for women growing? How? What is behind this rise? 

When I first started Sssh.com in 1999, there was barely any content specifically made for the female audience. Moreover, I was told time and again that there was no market for it because women were not visual and would never pay for porn. Fast forward to 2019, Sssh.com is celebrating its 20th anniversary. We are taking over from the director’s chair the fastest growing market segment for the consumption of porn.

One of the biggest drivers of this increase of women with adult content consumption is the changing attitudes towards sexuality and expression. The stigmas that have surrounded adult content have significantly decreased over the years, and women are no longer shamed or embarrassed when it comes to porn and expressing our sexuality.

More than ever women are empowered by their freedom to make choices for their own bodies and desires. Porn for women by women is a direct result of our liberation and the need for movies presented from a female perspective with an emphasis on female pleasure and realism. 

Q2: How big do you feel the market is for porn made by women?

We haven’t even scratched the surface of the market potential. As the longest-running online site geared towards women, I’ve had a front-row seat to this industry’s transformation from hetero male-focused content to an explosion of engaging and sex-positive movies driven by the female desire to fulfill their fantasies. As more women continue to get involved with the content creation process, we will continue to see the numbers rise with women because they will finally be able to consume porn that is both entertaining and stimulating.

There is a need for female-driven stories to balance the largely male-oriented fantasies that we currently see. There is a need for movies presented from a female perspective with an emphasis on female pleasure. It empowers us. It humanizes us. It tells our stories. 

Q3: Does Sssh.com produce audio-only porn - what do you feel is the potential for this medium? Does it appeal more to women? 

Sssh.com does have a wide selection of original, audio-only erotic stories on our site. We’ve been working on a few new series for this area that has been growing in popularity. Each tale is crafted with emotion, desire, and relatable characters that surround a central plot of sexual awakening or needs. 

Audio porn has really blown up in the past couple of years, with the rise of ASMR, podcasts, and apps. A big reason why audio erotica is so appealing to women is the same reason why Sssh has been successful, it’s created by women and caters to the female perspective of pleasure and desire.  

At Sssh, we are investing more time and resources toward audio erotica. I think there is a lot of opportunities to improve upon what’s already out there. I really want to paint the full picture and maximize the experience by incorporating more sophisticated sound design. Similar to what Orson Wells did with Mercury Theater during the golden age of radio, we want the experience to be more immersive. From adding sound effects to depict the environment and add suspense, to having different voices dictating the dialog – we really want to create a compelling theatrical experience.
