Interviews We Love

The interview on the next four pages is from 2016 and appeared in a Norweigan Publication called Nettavisen

1. What inspired you to start making pornography for women?

I first started in the online adult industry in the mid-90s, and I immediately noticed there was almost no content on the market which seemed to have been made with female viewers in mind. All the aesthetics, the themes, the focus of all the sex, the fantasies involved, all of it came from a male point of view. This inspired me in two ways. First and foremost, I was disappointed and felt the market needed and would benefit from porn made by women and for women. Secondarily, I saw it as an opportunity. I never believed it was true women were completely uninterested in porn. I saw it as a simple matter of there being a lack of porn which women would find interesting and alluring, so of course, we weren’t watching.

2. What’s the biggest difference between porn aimed at men and porn aimed at women?

It’s hard to generalize, but as I see it, the biggest difference is in porn made with women in mind, female pleasure and mutual pleasure between the performers is emphasized, while in a lot of ‘traditional’ male-focused porn, it’s all about the guy’s pleasure. There are other differences too, like fewer scenes which end with the guy ejaculating on his partner’s face, but the focus on mutual pleasure is the big one for me.

3. Are there in your opinion a difference in what men get turn on by, and what women get turned on by?

I think there are differences in what each of us gets turned on by, from individual to individual, but since people love to generalize, we’re always looking for differences in what men are turned on by versus women, instead of looking at it as a more nuanced, individual thing.

4. What is the ultimate, perfect porn movie?

I don’t think there’s any such thing as a porn movie that is perfect, or one which everybody would agree is perfect, at least. What’s perfect for me might not be a turn-on to other viewers at all.

That said, I think the perfect porn movie from a director’s perspective is one in which the director truly achieves her or his vision. I don’t know if I’ll ever make a movie I consider perfect in that way, because like a lot of people, I can be the toughest critic of my own work. I’ve made movies of which I’m very proud of – but I wouldn’t go so far as to call any of them perfect.
