Interviews We Love

This interview appeared in Playboy in 2018. The focus was on Ethical Porn, the consumption of porn, and if the free tubesites, could ever be considered an ethical platform.

Continued from previous page.

3. What about camming websites? Is it unethical to watch and not tip?

Of course not tipping cam performers for doing a good job is unethical, especially on free cam sites such as flirt4free.com and myfreecams.com where the performers rely on tips for their revenue rather than traditional one-on-one paid private shows. It’s no different than going to a strip club, enjoying the dancers, and not giving them a tip.

4. Some websites (like XTube) feature members who freely share personal content on the website. Would these be considered ethical? What I’m looking for, essentially, are instances that are considered ethical within unethical websites.

This really depends on a number of variables. Many performers become members of tubesites to promote themselves on social media, their own sites, clip stores, cam site and other revenue-generating platforms. This is perfectly ethical for them to do, so long as they make sure the tube sites allow them to link to at the very least, their Twitter or other social media accounts to develop their fan base and direct followers to their blog, clip stores, etc.

The other element that comes into play here is the number of performers in the content. If it is simply a solo performance by the actor, that is perfectly fine as long as she/he is over the age of 18. Where it gets “fuzzy” is when he/she performs with another person Did that person sign a model release? Provide proof of legal age? Consent to the content being released for free public view? If “no” to any of the above, it is unethical. It is also unethical for the tubesites to allow upload of performer videos without verification that the performer is in compliance on these aspects. This isn’t uploading cute kitten videos to YouTube, gang! It’s porn and requires due diligence by everyone involved to keep things consensual and legal.

Also, if a user uploads content taken without the permission of a production house and uploads it to a tube, that is called piracy and is unethical.
