Interviews We Love

This interview appeared in Uproxx.com in 2018. It's an overview of the industry

Enthusiastic Consent

One trend that is building in the adult film industry is that of affirmed and enthusiastic consent by all performers. At the end of the day, sex work in film production is just that - work. The murky nature of occupational consent becomes especially tricky when the work is sexual. If in our work we consensually engage in a sexual activity that we don’t necessarily enjoy, it’s seen as more problematic than if we engage in other kinds of less desirable activities for the sake of work. Sexual activity is seen as somehow inherently personal and vulnerable; it is believed to instantly demean and compromise the individual once it wavers from some fantasy of “authenticity.” I think this stems from how we have arbitrarily decided sex is categorically and qualitatively different from all other aspects of life when there isn’t really any reason to do so. We at Wasteland.com and Sssh.com have a performer bill of rights that clearly lays out guidelines for performer consent and best practices on set. Sex Robots

Ever since the dawn of civilization, sex has been one of the greatest motivators among humans. It’s now 2018 and the situation is basically still the same. Everything is about sex, and when you think about it, why wouldn’t it be? Sexual intercourse is one of the most exhilarating things a person can experience. For instance, the best celebrity Instagram profiles are owned by porn stars for a reason. No matter how popular sex is, not everyone has the opportunity to “do it” when the urge hits. Fortunately for them, scientists all around the world (USA, Asia mostly) are working tirelessly on a creation that will change our modern world forever – sex robots! Let’s see what the future holds...

Sex dolls have been around for quite some time now, but people simply grew tired of them. Even though many of them are magnificently crafted, they’re still far away from the “real deal”. The dolls are usually made of rubber or silicone, and those two materials are not exactly pleasant. However, one distributor managed to create a hyper-realistic sex doll. I’m talking about RealDoll Company, of course. These people are creating the best sex dolls on Earth and they are not planning to stop there. Basically, their plan is to use artificial intelligence in order to upgrade the next generation of their sex dolls.

Meet Harmony – The New Prototype.

Harmony 2.0 is the sex doll that can talk and it’s created by Matt McMullen, the chief executive of RealDoll. We can’t exactly call her a robot because she can’t walk, but Harmony is definitely the closest thing to a sexbot. She has an AI-equipped robotic head that allows her to speak, lead an active conversation, remember important dates, and even recite poetry. Harmony is able to remember what you like to do in the sack. This way, she’s able to provide her owners with the best artificial sexual experience out there. Her creator, Matt McMullen, is convinced this doll will have a positive impact on the world. “The idea of the robot is to help someone find a level of companionship that they may not be able to achieve otherwise”, says Matt. This realistic doll has a flexible skeleton and customized genitalia. The owner can also change its face and hair in order to create his perfect companion.
